2016 - 2019: Mentoring Disadvantaged Youth Across Borders

From 2016 to 2019, CESES joined two key Erasmus+ projects — MYDI (Mentoring Young Disadvantaged People for Inclusion) and EvolYou (European Senior Volunteering through Mentoring for the Social Inclusion of Young People in Difficulties) — both focused on helping young people transition into the labour market through mentorship and skills-based support.

Rooted in shared European values and inspired by the successful VerA model from Germany, these projects aimed to promote best practices across borders. For CESES, they reflected a growing commitment to not only share expertise, but also to support the next generation during a time of shifting economic and social priorities.

The idea for such collaboration was sparked as early as 2014, during a CESES meeting in Brussels where members explored ways to adapt proven mentoring approaches across Europe. By 2016, that conversation had evolved into active cooperation. And in the background, the Brexit vote had reminded many of the importance of reinforcing European ties — not just politically, but through meaningful, people-focused initiatives like these.

MYDI and EvolYou became examples of how CESES and its partners could channel long-standing experience into new, forward-looking partnerships — built on trust, shared purpose, and a belief in the power of mentorship. That same spirit continues today in the MAB project, building on what began nearly a decade ago.
