2011: Funding, Focus & the Future
By 2011, CESES had reached a more introspective phase in its journey.
Funding had naturally tapered off following the completion of major EU programmes like PHARE and AL-INVEST. With fewer large-scale external projects, the pace of activity slowed — but the spirit of collaboration remained.
Rather than viewing this period as a setback, many within the network saw it as a time for reflection and recalibration. CESES used this quieter moment to reassess its role in a rapidly evolving development landscape and consider how best to adapt to new priorities, both in Europe and abroad.
Some member organisations described it as a phase of “reorientation” — where conversations shifted inward, and strategic dialogue became central to preparing for future initiatives.
While the road ahead wasn’t immediately clear, the commitment to shared expertise and cooperation never wavered.
